Benefits of Certification:

Earning a NEMR certification and registration sends out a valuable and clear message. It demonstrates that an organization has made the sincerest commitment to ensuring the highest degree of care, safety and effectiveness of their existing Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Program/system.

When any type of critical incident occurs, the greatest single benefit of having a well-planned Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Program/system is, "to know that it works". To know: That those involved are prepared, can respond calmly and quickly, and are also able to coordinate well with first responders and the existing emergency plans of local, state and federal authorities.

The ANSI/NFPA 1600 provides the common set of criteria for this very purpose; and conformity assurance is best accomplished by third party assessment. NEMR provides independence, strict impartiality, due diligence and careful attention to detail as the basis of our conformity assessment process.

By virtue of its construction, the ANSI/NFPA 1600 specifies areas for planning and implementation of a DEMBCP, which can, and should, include; provisions for:

  • Pandemic Preparedness (CDC Checklist),
  • Hurricane Preparedness and/or,
  • Any applicable security requirements.

NEMR provides significant benefits to the organization by effectively auditing program/system compliance to aid the organization in improving the efficiency of the system. Simply achieving technical conformance to ANSI/NFPA 1600 is only part of the equation. NEMR is committed to fully understanding the goals, objectives and capabilities of each organization and its people; this defines and determines the intent of the requirements and the applicable scope of certification. By taking this all-inclusive approach, we are then able to deliver the optimum in beneficial results.

Beneficial Advantages In Becoming NEMR Certified:

  • Enhances an organization's ability to continue operations during, and resume normal operations quickly after a disaster/emergency, and thereby protects its investors & employees' jobs.
  • It reduces exposure to civil or criminal liability.
  • Affords an organization the ability to provide objective evidence of "Due Diligence".
  • Engages government recognition that certification programs save resources and aid them in planning for, and meeting, new legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Facilitates compliance with existing regulatory requirements (OSHA, EAP's, financial services regulations [Sarbanes-Oxley] & similar).
  • Provides direct linkage to the Emergency Management Accreditation Program for the Public Sector (Federal, State, Local and Territorial)
  • Fulfills and promotes moral responsibility to protect people (psychological and emotional effects during and after a disaster), the community and the environment.
  • Establishes the larger community's view that the organization is progressive and proactive in its thinking and actions.
  • Assists in receiving financial support (tax reductions, credits, grants, etc.) from government sources
  • Provides essential motivation for winning contract bid negotiations with corporate, federal. state and local municipalities
  • Integrates with existing management systems and auditing efforts to reduce organizational disruption (i.e. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, etc.)
  • Provides the basis for relatively lower premiums and has other favorable insurance implications.
  • Assists with securing better credit status within the credit-rating-industry
  • Provides solutions for ever increasing Supply Chain resiliency issues including "Pushdown" Requirements
  • Provides accountability to shareholders, employees and the public.

As the current national standard, it is vital that the private sector realize that the ANSI/NFPA 1600 ensures the viability of critical infrastructure and economic security.
