NEMR Desktop Assessment

When making any investment, it is important to be comfortable and to also know that the potential of significant ROI can be realized. NEMR understands this, and has developed a solution that delivers both value and requires no further obligation. As a preliminary step, NEMR offers an initial "Desktop Assessment" for the review of new or existing DEMBCP documentation. This evaluation was specifically conceived to serve as a benchmark for businesses and organizations looking to measure their existing program's current overall and general conformance to the requirements of ANSI/NFPA 1600 Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs. It requires a one-time nominal fee and also serves to assist each business or organization in making an educated decision on whether to proceed with full certification.

How it Works:

Businesses and organizations are made aware of the desktop assessment option either directly by an NEMR representative or through review of NEMR information found on the NEMR web site. The NEMR desktop assessment option is a stand alone activity independent of any on-site auditing and is conducted as follows:

1. Dependent upon the size and operation, an applicant choosing the desk top assessment option is first required to select, fill out and submit one of the following applicable questionnaires:
Small/Medium Organization Single Site Questionnaire…Click Here

Large Organization Multi-Site Questionnaire… Click Here

2. Upon review of the questionnaire, an NEMR representative will then contact the applying organization to arrange for the submission of their DEMBCP documentation that is to be reviewed along with the associated fee.

3. Upon receipt of the applying organization's DEMBCP documentation, an authorized NEMR representative will conduct the desktop assessment. In instances where an agreement with the applicant organization indicates that an eventual on-site audit is assured, every effort will be made to assign the desktop assessment to the auditor most likely to conduct the on-site activity to provide as much continuity in the audit process as possible.

4. The authorized NEMR representative conducting the desktop assessment will perform a comparison of the applicant organizations system documentation with the requirements of ANSI/NFPA 1600 and any other supplemental standards the applicant organization claims compliance to.

5. The results of the desktop assessment will then be recorded on the ANSI/NFPA 1600 Checklist, any other appropriate checklists if available and a summary report deemed appropriate

With regard to conformance of applicant organization's DEMBCP documentation to ANSI/NFPA 1600 and/or any other standards the applicant organization claims compliance to, the results of the desktop assessment may be as follows:

a) Documentation is found in conformance with the general requirements of ANSI/NFPA 1600 and any additional standards identified as applicable.

b) Documentation is found in conformance with the general requirements of ANSI/NFPA 1600 and any additional standards identified as applicable with some discrepancies noted. Discrepancies will be noted only. No comments or recommendations will be made that could be interpreted as guidance on conformance with the applicable standards.

c) Documentation is found to be in overall nonconformance with the general requirements of ANSI/NFPA 1600 and any additional standards identified as applicable. Discrepancies will be noted only. No comments or recommendations will be made that could be interpreted as guidance on conformance with the applicable standards.

6. With regard to compliance of applicant organizations DEMBCP documentation to applicable local, state and federal government requirements or regional potential emergency situations, general observations and comments may be included in the desktop assessment report for consideration by the applicant organization. No comments or recommendations will be made that could be interpreted as guidance on compliance with the applicable standards.

7. The applying organization will then be provided with the results of the desktop review.

Upon receipt of the summary report defining the results of the desktop review, the applicant organization will then have the option to discontinue the certification process at which time there is no further obligation or continue on with the full certification process.

Should the potential applicant and NEMR agree that certification is appropriate; the applicant will be provided with the official application form required for the full certification process.
